I don’t play for comps in fact; it’s nothing short of stupid to play for comps so I rarely think about comps until the time comes for me to use them. Lately, I’ve been rather upset over the comping, or lack of it, in brick and mortar casinos. The comps are drifting away and my internet gambling hasn’t changed. I play the same way I’ve played for a number of years.
When Jack Binion’s Horseshoe in Tunica Mississippi held the reins, you could always expect meals and anything else you knew you deserved back in the form of comps. Then, just as many people expected, Harrah’s came in and ruined everything where the comps were concerned. Rooms at the Horseshoe were always a little tough to get your hands on but if you played internet casino there with loyalty, you were able to stay there and the suites, which were a great number of their ‘standard’ rooms, were very sweet. Lovely rooms with sitting areas and beautiful appointments could be yours free of charge if you were a table player who played $25.00 plus average hands. Not so with Harrah’s and no one seems to know their guidelines. In fact, I quit playing there and The Horseshoe was my place for a long time.
The Horseshoe isn’t the only place in Tunica to tighten the comp system, in fact the only places that aren’t choking the life out of comps is The Hollywood Casino and Sam’s Town Gambling bingo online Hall, and ironically both are located right across the street from each other. These two casinos are the only two casinos in Tunica giving gamblers their fair shake on comps.
If you want comps in Indiana, you’ll be unpleasantly surprised. Even though the crew I gamble with will never play for comps, one or two of these people play very large and they are even hard pressed for comps. I still play right outside of Louisville at Caesar’s but don’t expect anything great for my time or money spent. And why should anyone expect anything more from a Harrah’s property? After all, this is just one more casino Harrah’s has gobbled up. And they seem to be gobbling up the comps right along with the casinos they purchase.
The comps in Las Vegas are much more difficult to receive too. You’ll be hard pressed on the strip to find comped rooms unless you are playing the kind of money that will grab the attention of the pit boss right off. The older casinos on the strip such as The New Frontier or The Tropicana are the exception here but go to the mega resorts and find a free room with gift shop comps and fine dining comps and you may be playing more than you care to admit.
Gone are the days when you could get free drinks, great food, plush rooms, and small to medium gift shop comps for free as a reward for dropping thousands on the gaming floor. The casinos are looking for the casino gambler who turns tens of thousands. Then, and only then, a host will approach to let you know that they want to offer you a dinner comp. If you’re lucky, you may get a buffet and if you’re smart you’ll expect a Steakhouse Dinner. |
